This Privacy Policy explains how the Scandra – Document Scanner & PDF app ("Scandra", "the app", "we", "us") handles your information. Scandra is developed and published by Nainnie Labs.
1. Your documents
- Scanning, edge detection, image processing, text recognition (OCR), PDF creation, merging, splitting, compression, password protection, and signature placement all happen locally on your device. We operate no server that receives your documents, and none of this requires an internet connection.
- Scanned documents and their pages are stored in the app's private storage area, which other apps on your device cannot read.
- Text extracted by OCR is stored in a local database on your device so that you can search your scans offline. This text is never transmitted anywhere.
- Signatures you draw are stored locally in the app's private storage and can be deleted at any time from Settings.
- Files you explicitly export or share leave the app only where you send them — your device's storage, or an app you choose in the share sheet. That choice is always yours.
- Deleting a document in the app removes its files and its indexed text from your device. Uninstalling the app removes all of it.
2. Device permissions
| Permission | Why it is used |
|---|---|
| Camera | Only for the in-app manual capture mode, used on devices that cannot run the standard scanner. The camera is used solely to capture the document you are scanning. The standard scanner uses Google Play services' own camera interface and does not require this permission. |
| Notifications | To show progress for background work such as text recognition and file export. Optional — the app works without it. |
| Advertising ID | Added by the Google Mobile Ads SDK for advertising, as described in Section 5. Not used in the ad-free version. |
Selecting existing images or PDFs uses the Android system picker, which grants the app access only to the specific files you choose — not to your whole gallery or storage.
3. Information we do not collect
Scandra has no account system and no analytics. We do not collect, store, or process your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, the contents of your documents, or the text recognized within them. We hold no user database of any kind.
4. Backups and cloud services
Scandra does not sync to any cloud service and has no server component. The app is configured so that your scanned documents, recognized text, and signatures are excluded from Android's automatic cloud backup, so they are not copied to your Google Drive. This means your documents live on your device only — if you change or reset your device without exporting them, they will not carry over.
5. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of Scandra displays advertisements served by Google AdMob, a third-party advertising service provided by Google. Ad formats used include banners within lists, full-screen ads shown after an export completes, ads shown when reopening the app, and optional rewarded ads you can choose to watch to unlock certain features. To serve and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process:
- Device information (device model, operating system version, screen properties)
- Advertising ID (a resettable identifier provided by Android)
- IP address and coarse (approximate) location derived from it
- Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks) and diagnostics or performance data
This data is collected and processed by Google under its own policies. See Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Your documents and their recognized text are never shared with advertisers or used to target ads.
- Consent: where required (including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland), a consent form is shown before any ads are requested, and advertising is only initialized once you have made your choice. You can change it at any time via Settings → Privacy options.
- Advertising ID: you can reset or delete it, and opt out of ad personalization, in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads).
- Remove Ads: after the one-time "Remove Ads" purchase, the app stops requesting and displaying ads entirely.
6. Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details; Google Play provides only confirmation that a purchase was made so the app can unlock the feature on your device. Google's handling of payment data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
7. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information. The only third parties that receive any data are:
- Google AdMob — advertising data described in Section 5 (free version only)
- Google Play Billing — purchase processing described in Section 6
Google Play services also supplies the on-device scanning and text recognition components. These run locally on your device and do not send your document images or text to Google.
8. Data retention
Because we do not collect your documents or personal information, we have nothing to retain. Data stored locally by the app remains on your device until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Data collected by Google for advertising is retained according to Google's policies.
9. Security
- Your documents never leave your device, which is the strongest protection available: there is no cloud copy to breach.
- Documents are kept in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot access on modern Android versions.
- You can enable a biometric or PIN app lock in Settings to require authentication before the app can be opened. This protects the app on your device; it does not encrypt the underlying files.
- PDF password protection uses AES encryption applied on your device. Passwords are never stored or transmitted, which also means a forgotten password cannot be recovered by us or by anyone else.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. Because Scandra itself collects no personal data, these rights are exercised mainly through your device settings and the in-app privacy options for advertising, or directly with Google for the data it processes. You may also contact us using the details below. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Children's privacy
Scandra is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ad serving is configured in line with Google Play's families and ads policies. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, contact us and we will assist in addressing it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date, and significant changes will be highlighted in the app or its store listing.
