Signly is an offline fingerspelling trainer for American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL), made by Nainnie Labs. This policy explains what Signly does with your information, in plain terms.
- Your camera frames never leave your phone. Hand tracking and letter recognition run entirely on-device (Google MediaPipe / ML Kit). No frame is ever recorded, stored, or uploaded.
- We run no servers. Signly has no accounts, no sign-in, and no backend. Your practice history, calibration samples, and settings live only in the app's private storage on your device.
- The only network traffic Signly generates comes from Google services we embed: advertising (Google AdMob), consent management (Google UMP), and purchases (Google Play Billing).
1. Camera
Camera access is optional. It is used for two features only: live sign recognition ("Camera practice" / calibration, front camera) and reading printed text to fingerspell it ("Scan & Spell", rear camera, on-device ML Kit text recognition).
Frames are processed in memory and immediately discarded. If you never grant camera permission, every other feature still works.
2. Data stored on your device
Signly keeps the following in its own private storage, on your device only:
- Practice sessions, per-letter accuracy, lesson scores and streaks
- Your settings
- Optional hand-calibration samples — numeric landmark coordinates, not images
Uninstalling the app deletes all of it. Nothing is synced anywhere.
3. Advertising
The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may process device identifiers and ad-interaction data as described in Google's privacy policy.
Where required, Signly asks for your consent through Google's User Messaging Platform before any ad is requested, and you can revisit your choice under Settings → Privacy options. Purchasing Remove Ads (or redeeming a 24-hour ad-free pass) disables all advertising.
4. Purchases
The Remove Ads purchase is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We receive no payment details.
5. Children
Signly does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. There are no social features, and no user-generated content leaves the device.
