Why this one is different

Excludes1 and Excludes2 mean opposite things

An Excludes1 note says the two codes are never reported together. An Excludes2 note says the excluded condition is not part of this one, but a patient may have both — so both codes may be reported. Apps that merge them into one list of "excludes" have thrown away the distinction that decides whether a claim pays. Codra never runs them together, labels each one, and explains it in a line.

Every note labelledIncludes, Excludes1, Excludes2, Code First, Code Also, Use Additional.
Inheritance shownNotes from the block or chapter above are marked as inherited.
Billable at a glanceEvery row says whether the code can stand on its own.
The index tooThe alphabetic index, not just the tabular list.
Offline, alwaysThe code set is in the app, not behind a connection.
No patient dataNever asked for, and no server to send it to.

What the app stores and what it does not is set out in the privacy policy.

What Codra does

Built for the fiftieth lookup of the day

Search

Search the way you think

  • A code (E11.9), a keyword (asthma), or how a patient said it ("broken arm")
  • Exact matches first, then prefixes, then descriptions
  • Matched words highlighted, and billable status on every row
  • Filter to ICD-10, billable only, or HCPCS and procedures
Codra search — exact matches first, matched words highlighted, billable status on every row

Instructional notes

The notes most apps flatten

  • Excludes1 and Excludes2 kept apart, never merged
  • A plain-English line on each saying what the instruction means
  • Notes inherited from the block or chapter above are marked as such
  • Compare two or three codes side by side to see where their excludes differ
Codra code detail — Excludes1 and Excludes2 as separate labelled sections with inherited notes marked

The index

Both halves of the code book

  • Diseases and Injuries, External Causes, Neoplasm Table, Table of Drugs and Chemicals
  • Look up by name, follow the sub-terms, jump to the full entry
  • Browse all 22 chapters, their blocks and every category
  • Each chapter colour-coded, on its thumb tab and on every code row
Codra alphabetic index — look a condition up by name and follow the sub-terms down

1 October

Find out from the app, not from a denial

  • What was added, deleted and revised this fiscal year
  • Your own favourites and lists reconciled against the new set
  • Deleted codes kept and marked rather than disappearing
  • ICD-10-CM FY2027, effective 1 October 2026, from CDC and NCHS
Codra what-changed screen — new, deleted and revised codes for the fiscal year

Denials

What that CARC on the remittance means

  • Plain-language summaries of CARC and RARC codes
  • What tends to cause each one, and what to check next
  • Written by us rather than reproduced from the X12 descriptors — the app says so
  • HCPCS Level II, Level II modifiers and CMS Place of Service codes too
Codra denial codes — CARC and RARC explained in plain language, with what to check next

Day to day

The small things that add up

  • Favourites, custom lists, and your own notes on any code
  • Export a list as a typeset PDF or as CSV, and share it
  • A full dark theme, and text that scales to 200% without losing a line
  • Long-press any code, anywhere, to copy it
Codra browse — all 22 ICD-10-CM chapters with their blocks and categories, colour-coded

Codra is a reference tool, not a substitute for professional judgement. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition, and it never tells you which code to assign. It is not medical, coding or billing advice. Verify every code against the current official guidelines and your payer's rules.

Questions

Codra — frequently asked

Does Codra work without internet?

Yes, completely. The whole ICD-10-CM code set ships inside the app, so searching, browsing the tabular list, reading the alphabetic index and opening a code's full entry all work in aeroplane mode. There is no sign-in and no account.

Does it show Excludes1 and Excludes2 separately?

Yes, and this is the reason the app exists. Excludes1 and Excludes2 mean opposite things — one says the two codes are never reported together, the other says both may be — so Codra never runs them together. Each appears as its own labelled section with a plain-English line saying what the instruction means.

Does Codra include the alphabetic index?

Yes — Diseases and Injuries, External Causes, the Neoplasm Table and the Table of Drugs and Chemicals. You can look a condition up by name, follow the sub-terms down, and jump to the full tabular entry. An app with only the tabular list is half a code book.

Which code set version is in the app?

ICD-10-CM FY2027, effective 1 October 2026, from CDC and NCHS. HCPCS Level II comes from the CMS public use file and Place of Service from the CMS code set. Codra does not include CPT.

How do I find out what changed on 1 October?

Codra has a what-changed screen listing what was added, deleted and revised for the fiscal year, and it reconciles your own favourites and lists against it. Deleted codes are kept and marked rather than vanishing, because a deleted code sitting in a charge template denies from day one.

Can I look up a denial code?

Yes. Codra explains what a CARC or RARC on a remittance usually means, what tends to cause it, and what to check next. These summaries are written by us rather than reproduced from the official X12 descriptors, and the app says so on the screen — check x12.org for the normative wording.

Is Codra free?

The free tier covers full ICD-10-CM search and browse, the complete alphabetic index, every instructional note, the full hierarchy, 15 favourites, one list, dark mode and the annual change screen, supported by ads. Codra Pro removes ads and adds unlimited favourites and lists, notes, denial codes, HCPCS Level II, Place of Service, code comparison and PDF and CSV export.

Does Codra tell me which code to assign?

No, and it will not. Codra is a reference tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. Verify every code against the current official guidelines and your payer's rules, and consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice.

Does Codra ask for patient information?

Never. There is no field intended for it and the notes editor says so. No names, dates of birth, medical record numbers or claim numbers. Nothing you look up leaves your device, because there is no server for it to reach.

Does it work on a night shift?

There is a full dark theme, and text scales to 200 percent without a line going missing. You can long-press any code anywhere to copy it.
